The Og Mandino Story - 2
The middle part of the Og Mandino
Story was never easy but the ultimate in degradation arrived
one cheerless day in an inhospitable
Cleveland,
Ohio where Og Mandino contemplated putting a bullet in his
skull. Even the prospect of suicide, the ultimate failure, was
too much for him to do at this stage. Trudging through the snow
Og found himself outside a public library and, more for warmth
than anything else, went in.
Wandering amongst the many
bookshelves Og Mandino found himself staring at the section
headed “Self-help, Success and Motivation” and began to wonder
whether it was finally all too late to start again. Happily,
this proved to be a tipping point in the Og Mandino Story and
became the first of many visits to various public
libraries.
In due course, the reliance on
alcohol became less addictive and, at long last, in a library
in Concord, New Hampshire Og came across the book and the man
who were to influence the final chapters of the Og Mandino
Story. Or to quote Og Mandino “I discovered W. Clement Stone’s
great classic, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude…and
my life has never been the same since then”.
Finding that W. Clement Stone
was the president of Combined Insurance Company of America, Og
Mandino applied to the Boston branch for a position as an
insurance salesman. Life took a turn for the better in the Og
Mandino Story not only because Og became successful but he also
met a wonderful woman who became his life-long companion. With
her help and support Og was promoted to sales manager and was
soon breaking company turnover records.
